‘Recess’ Delicious Meal-Replacement Smoothie

Fun, Satisfying, & Delicious

Of all the smoothie recipes I’ve come up with over the years, this is perhaps my oldest because it’s based on a very simple, basic idea: Peanut Butter & Jelly.

Now, a PB&J smoothie is nothing new, pretty easy to conceptualize, and popular enough that you might be familiar with a particular smoothie spot that offers such a thing. Truly, that was one of the places that first gave me the idea.

But to me, the ability to make something at home means making a richer, more nutritive version than what any franchise or quick-stop place can offer. Thus the ‘Recess’ smoothie is full of energy-fueling, gut-healthy, protein packed and delicious ingredients with an overall taste that somehow evokes the feeling of taking a break from zipping across a park to sit down with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich- complete with grass stains on your knees. Read on to see what I mean.

It’s a sandwich- and the park- in a glass (or bowl!) Trust me on this one.

Nutritional Properties:

While I usually break down the medicinal components of a recipe, this one is largely anti-oxidant fruits, fiber (which aids gut health, mental wellness and lowers both blood sugar and cholesterol, with awesome macros. So this time I’m going to just give you the recipe so you see for yourseelf. I will, however, take one second to talk about the ‘grass stain’ aspect of this nostalgic smoothie….

Wheatgrass- Wheatgrass is a highly beneficial and popular dietary supplement because it is powerfully alkaline and boasts a potent supply of chlorophyll. Wheatgrass helps the body stay in balance, aiding in cancer prevention, weight management, energy production and anti-aging (due to the high concentration of vitamins and antioxidants). For some the taste is unpleasant, but you’ll find it hardly noticeable in this smoothie!
